Jenny Saxty- August 2019

The lovely welcoming greeting on arrival marked the start of an excellent holiday based at Barns Highland campsite.

The site is about 10-15 minutes outside of Nairn town centre, straightforward to find. It's in an excellent position to visit loads of great places including Culloden, Fort George, Brodie castle, Cawdor castle, Inverness and loads of coastal towns along the Moray Firth. Urquart castle on Loch Ness is only an hour away. Big tesco superstore (including petrol) 20 minutes drive away.

The campsite is brand new this year and you can tell the owners have spared nothing. The toilet and dishwashing blocks are immaculate. There are disabled access facilities but didn't look at what these were. There were big bins located at the site entrance so easy to drop off rubbish every day. Site access was via code access barrier which gave another level of security.

We were on a grass pitch with electric hook up. This was a soft level pitch. Looking around, the non electric areas were also flat grassy areas. Caravans and campervans were each given a large flat gravel bay and an adjoining flat grass pitch. Nowhere was crowded. Everyone was friendly.

The campsite was located in a lovely rural spot, surrounded by farmland. There were a couple of walks on site, one taking in an on-site pond, the other around the neighbouring fields with access to the river Nairn through some proper wooded area. For people with smaller children, access to these areas was via gates- no direct access to the water from the campsite which was all within a fence. Loads of wildlife to spot.

The owners seemed to welcome every guest and looked to make time every day to get around to check if everyone was ok or needed anything. They were so friendly and welcoming.

Would definitely recommend this site.

Liked: Lovely quiet site. Nice countryside not far outside Nairn. Owners/wardens very friendly and helpful. Super facilities very fresh and clean. Nice Highland cattle nearby too! Disliked: Lack of Signs from main road.

Elisa De Nardi- August 2019

Ampi spazi e buona organizzazione bagni per famiglie. Ottima pulizia

Chrissie Mackie- August 2019

The camp is spacious , tidy. Good toilet and shower facilities. Plenty of enclosed bin areas and dim lights throughout the camping site on night times. Secure and the owners are quick to help and assistance when needed. Plenty of designated hook up points for electricity and water points. Quiet and pituresque with fields , highland cows and sheep. Don't worry theres no odour from the fields.

Ruth Reed- August 2019

Location I the countryside but only 7 minutes into Nairn

Katie Haywood- August 2019

Beautiful little campsite, fantastic owners and great open water swimming pond. Close to Nairn and Inverness

Sarah Reid- August 2019

This is possibly the best site we have ever been to. Its quiet and calm with lots of space for the children. Beautifully kept with a very basic rural feel to it. A lovely little farm diversification. Its very tidy, and as we too are farmers it felt homely and peaceful to us. There were places to walk and a lovely pond across the fence. The pond is well fenced away from the main site but there is access to it though a gate. My children loved to paddle in it and play on the sand at the edge. One afternoon was spent at the site merely playing in the pond. There were people swimming in it too so I assume it must be deep enough to do so. The facilities are new and very clean. It is not a very big site so the small number of toilets coped well. The showers have heads which come off the attachment so is great for showering little ones. A family/disabled shower was available too which made showering 2 young children on my own much easier. The facilities are central so not far from any part of the site. The main bins are outside the main gates, so a bit of a walk to them. The waste water etc is near the exit too so again a little bit away, but this did not affect us being in a tent. There is a water tap on each hook up point which was great for being in the tent. Overall it was brilliant. The couple who own it are very nice. They could be the nicest people I have ever encountered on a site. The office is open for a very short period but they have cameras and an intercom so you can contact them. We arrived out-with office time and within minutes of being there a gator arrived on the scene to help us out. We will definitely be going back again! Thank you for a lovely stay.

Mark Brown- August 2019

We stayed for 4 nights, 2 adults and 2 children in a touring caravan. We had a great time and the site was perfect. A big pond where the kids loved throwing stones and a short walk to the nearby river. The toilets and showers were clean and modern with the showers easy to use. A good base for exploring the Moray area with there being lots to do locally. The owners are regularly on hand to give advice on what to do and to make sure everything is going smoothly.
A great find and would stay here again.

Stuart McCall- August 2019

Lovely site, nice wide pitches for the caravan, lost of open spaces. Four sinks in the toilets, but only one shop bought soap dispenser, for of a couple of pound you could add one more.

William Clark- August 2019

Great location. Lots of grass for children to run about and play. Pond to also paddle in

Violet Fedorovic- August 2019

Great location, very quite and peaceful

Vanessa and Sylvia Horwell- August 2019

Hello.

We’ve had a lovely three nights on your new site. It is peaceful and well spaced out. It’s lovely to have your own water and WiFi included in the pitch fee. The showers are lovely in terms of simplicity of getting the right temperature and are not over faffy. Your camp washing up area is lovely even though we didn’t use it. I must also say your attention to customers is great; we watched you check that your guests after arriving were ok. This is not always done on bigger sites! We also appreciated you moving our things when it was wet! A few suggestions now which I call ‘what would be better if...’

1. Could you provide fold up stools in the shower for those who may need sit to dry off? Alternatively a handle rail to hold onto if you feel like you are over balancing.
2. Perhaps when you have time over the winter, think about adding some gravel walkways at intervals to get you to the facilities; can be quite wet walking over the grass.
3. Not everyone is as tidy/thoughtful as perhaps they could be in the toilet block. Perhaps some gentle reminder signs regards leaving showers/toilets in a good way for the next person. A pet hate for me is having to rinse a shower down which has hairs in it- it’s just courtesy for the next user.

We think you’ve got the right attitude to be successful. We will certainly call by again.

Kind regards, Vanessa and Sylvia Horwell

Great new site with brand new facilities..our host Ewan couldn’t have been more welcoming and friendly.. we only stopped in for one night on our tour but glad we did ..there is a couple of little walks close by to go down to the river ideal place to chill ...pitches are nicely spaced out and you are not on top of your neighbours .. this site will only get better as it grows . I wish the owners success going forward and will definitely pop in again when I’m up this way again

Kevin Turner - JUly 2019

Very well equipped and tranquil site located two miles out of Nairn. Owners very helpful and friendly with plenty of knowledge about local places of interest. Immaculately clean toilet facilities and great showers. Will 100% be back.

William Simpson - JUly 2019

Owners very friendly and attentive. Wanted to change pitch, for personal reasons, after a couple of days and this was no trouble at all with offers of help if needed. Very peaceful site with great scenery.

David Gladman - JUly 2019

Stayed at this excellent site, for four nights, Truus and Ewan were brilliant hosts and the facilities are really good. A great base for sightseeing with Culloden and Fort George within 30 minutes drive and both well worth the visit. The beaches at Nairn are excellent and only 10 minutes away, as are Burghead and Lossiemouth, just a little further down the coast. If you are lucky, you could get an Airshow from the Typhoons, at RAF Lossiemouth who were practicing their take off and landing drills. Thank you Truus and Ewan

Gail and Alan burns - JUly 2019

Anne Norcross - JUly 2019

Had an amazing 2 day stay at this new campsite. Showers and facilities the best we have stayed at (we have been travelling for 5 weeks) lovely environmentally aware site. Superb sunsets, highland cattle in next field, wild flowers around. Between us we fished in river and swam in the large pond. Walks and areas for dogs are well thought out. Only improvement I can suggest would be a communal washing line. Thanks for a great stay. 2

Aislinn Lodge- JUNE 2019

Eva Orossova - JUNE 2019

Best camping place in Scotland! Everything brand new and super clean, very calm and neat, close to Inverness, Culloden, Fort George and many castles and other sights. The owner is very helpful and kind. Reception open till 6pm but you can come any time, there is a speaking panel with ring leading to the owner's home. Quite cheap! We enjoyed it very much! <3

Peter Thomson - JUNE 2019

Just had a brilliant couple of days here. Stunning setting, excellent facilities, spotlessly clean and a warm welcome given by Ewan & Truus. Offlead walks down by the river & the pond especially enjoyed by our pooch. Will definitely be back.

Fi matthews - JUNE 2019

What a lovely family, dog friendly site. We’re on our fourth night of our stay. It’s a brand new site and so clean even with a spoiled cocker spaniel. Dill is loving the freedom of the dog walk round the pond. Well worth a visit we’ve stayed in most of the sites in the area but this is the place to come for peace and relaxation. Plenty places to visit within a short drive and return to relax in this lovely peaceful countryside. We’ll definitely come back and recommend to our friends even our non Caravanning who can book the onsite pods or cottage, The owners are so friendly without being intrusive and even got some gorgeous roses from their garden to enjoy in our caravan. Thank you x

Shona Hudson - May 2019

Had a lovely time at your park in May we were on our own for most of the time which was great for us and our dogs who we allowed off lead in the brilliant enclosed area. They have not had the opportunity to be off lead in a large area before and loved it. You have a beautiful site and we plan to come back as soon as we can. Next time we will know you sell fresh eggs too lovely!

Mo Dickson - MAY 2019

Lovely new site with lovely views. Everything brand new so toilets immaculate and right in the middle so not far to walk. Dog friendly site and large grass areas to walk your dog with dog bins round the fence.
If you want peace and quiet this is the place to be! Stock up your van as no shops nearby within walking distance. Owner is very welcoming and friendly along with his gorgeous wee dog, I think was called Mara 😆
Sadly we only stayed one night as already had plans for next day but will deffo be back again soon !
Highly Recommend Barns A+++.

Beautiful, easy walks. Lots of safe space for children and dogs to run about. Clean, new facilities. Friendly owners. Lots to do in the area if you like history, wildlife and beaches. Nairn is great to visit.

TONY CAMILLERI - MAY 2019

Beautifully laid out, very peaceful. Facilities are spotless. Very helpful and friendly.

STEVE KEmP - may 2019

All new good size pitches toilets and showers excellent

INNES MORRISON - MAY 2019

We spent Friday and Saturday night at this camp site. The pitches are well laid out, we were given was massive patch, even for our 8 x 4 metre tent. The ground was good, no bent tent pins, and next to us there was electric hookup and fresh water tap.

The toilet /shower block is kept very clean. There is also a chemical waste disposal system on site. Behind our pitch was a field with a small loch. We were able let our dog run free. Ewan and Truus invited us to there grand opening ceremony on Saturday afternoon where the gave a speech on how their initial idea started up to present day. A lovely hog roast roll and trimmings was to follow. Ewan and Truus seem a lovely, friendly couple and we wish them all the best for the future. We will certainly return in the near future to Barns camp site .

The only thing I can suggest is putting shelves in the toilet/shower block area , 1 hook on the shower door is not enough to hang your towel and clothes on .

MARC May 2019

Peaceful location and great facilities

ANNE CAMPBELL - MAY 2019

Lovely new site with well throughout layout. very spacious pitches, lots of water and electric points close to hand. big open spaces as well as save fences area to let dog run off some steam.

Also loved their pods ideal which would be ideal if wanted to have family join you for a night or two during your holiday. Will definitely be back if we are in area again. motorhomers with 3 kids and a dog

LOUSA McCONACHIE - APRIL 2019

We spent 3 peaceful nights at Barns. Big pitch spaces, great facilities, all sparkling new. The fenced-off pond area was ideal for the dog and it is already bringing in the wildlife, we saw Oystercatchers and Pewits (Lapwing), geese and ducks and had a lovely walk down to the river too. There's lots to do in the area. We biked in the forest along Nairn East beach, swam in Nairn pool, ate waffles and ice cream at Jamie's on the Nairn beach front, more food at Basil at the harbour and visited Fort George and Inverness. A great campsite in a fabulous location.

GP - APRIL 2019

A nice peaceful campsite in the countryside, with open views over the fields, and it’s close to the river for a river stroll. The facilities are brand new and spotless, and the owners are really nice, friendly and helpful. I had a look at the glamping pods and they look top quality with hot running water and a proper bed etc (way better than other basic ones I’ve seen!!!)
